6 reasons why Squarespace is the right choice for your small business
Squarespace for small businesses 101
Squarespace is a powerful website builder with great out-of-the box templates and world class customer support. But how do you know that it’s the right platform for you? Having worked in Squarespace for over the last six years, I’ve found it to be an incredibly reliable option for 90% all of my clients. The user interface is intuitive and the drag and drop editor makes it easy to make updates. While some people are concerned about the limitations of Squarespace’s template structure, I’ve found that those limitations can actually inspire creativity, and help my clients focus on the most important part of your website, your message.
So, here are 6 reasons why you should choose Squarespace
1. All-in-one platform - No hidden or surprise costs
Plugin and feature subscriptions can add up when you’re building a website. Purchasing a handful of essential Wordpress or Shopify plugins can quickly put you over $100 per month in website fees. Squarespace doesn’t do that. Their pricing tiers are transparent and add-ons are reasonable! Don’t need e-commerce, that’s $20. Add e-commerce? That’s $30.
“ If there is an update or a new feature, Squarespace takes care of that in the backend, you don’t need to do a thing”
On top of that, Squarespace takes care of your hosting. And if you want to keep everything in one place, you can purchase your domain and email addresses through Squarespace as well.
2. You can’t break it
We’ve all seen that tempting “Update all” button hanging out at the top of Wordpress sites, crying out to be clicked. But how many of us have found our websites in tatters after updating a plugin when we probably shouldn’t have? Squarespace doesn’t have that issue. Squarespace keeps all of it’s source code behind closed doors so the average user can’t touch it (unless you’re using Developer Mode, which I don’t recommend). If there is an update or a new feature, Squarespace takes care of that in the backend, you don’t need to do a thing. And they’re really good at rolling those updates out smoothly so you don’t even notice.
3. Easy to use
Probably the most compelling feature is how easy it is to update Squarespace. Once your site has been built, it really is quite simple to add an event, post a blog, change out some text, or add new photos. No more hunting around for widgets and plugins, Squarespace is built for the marketer or business owner, not the advanced developer, giving you full control of your site.
If there is a design element or feature that you really want to have, chances are, someone has done it and a professional developer can make it happen.
4. Best in class Customer Support
Even as a Squarespace Expert and longtime user, I run into problems that I don’t know how to solve. Squarespace support has proven time and time again why they are at the top of their game. Their Live Chat agents are patient and responsive, and the email support always gets back quickly (usually with a solution to your issue). The best part? it’s completely free with your Squarespace subscription.
5. Easy Integrations
The biggest downside to Squarespace used to be working with 3rd party services. But over the last couple of years, they have made it so much easier. They have always had great integrations with Mailchimp (email marketing) and Acuity (online scheduling service), but with their Zapier integration, they have made it so much easier to connect your Squarespace site to other platforms including Hubspot, Convertkit, and Google Apps.
6. Security
SSL Certificates: Check
Two Factor Authentication: Check
Closed System: Check
I have had clients in Wordpress who have lost their sites to Brute Force attacks that essentially took their websites hostage. Recovering from a breach like that is expensive and, if a site isn’t backed up properly, can mean weeks offline, which is even more money lost. On top of that, there is the lingering fear that this kind of attach could happen again.
With Squarespace, I don’t even think about security. Squarespace automatically generates an SSL Certificate when you connect your domain, so your users never get that “This site is not secure” notification and can be fully confident that their information is safe. The SSL Certificate automatically regenerates too, so there is never a lapse in your site’s security.
As I mentioned before, Squarespace does all of their updates automatically in the background. So, unlike with Wordpress, you are never exposed due to an out-of-date plugin or element on your site.
